SAN DIEGO February 4, 2019– When people think of Aira, they often only think about our trained sighted agents who provide visual information to blind and low vision people using the camera on their smartphone or smart glasses. While the service does provide these unique capabilities, it can also do much more – thanks to the power of the Agent Dashboard. One feature you may not know about is how you can connect your Lyft and Uber accounts to Aira.

Today, if you link your Lyft or Uber account with Aira, agents can immediately assist you with:

  • Requesting a new ride
  • Inputting your destination
  • Providing information about the driver, the vehicle, estimated fare, and ETA
  • Navigating to pick-up spots
  • Alerting you when your ride has arrived
  • Navigating from a drop-off point to a final destination

Here’s how Explorers are using Aira’s rideshare feature:

  • “As a blind person who uses the Lyft and Uber apps regularly, the experience itself in the app is relatively accessible. All buttons are labeled, however where things get less accessible is when the ride is on its way. I absolutely love the fact that agents can track the ride and identify it for me when it arrives. I can simply walk confidently to my ride without any hassle. Of course, I still confirm with the driver by asking them who they are looking for, but by that time the agent has already confirmed the make and model of the car for me visually.”
  • “I love that agents can book rides for me. When I am on my way out of the airport I can ask them to order me an Uber and it is usually there by the time I reach the curb. If it is not, the agent is able to tell me what exactly is going on, where the car is located, and when it will be arriving.”
