Everette Bacon Named Chief of Blindness Initiatives

Aira is pleased to announce that Everette Bacon has been promoted to Chief of Blindness Initiatives. Since joining Aira as VP of Blindness Initiatives in 2023, Everette has played a fundamental leadership role at Aira. His work has included advocacy, securing state and federal funding, and advancing the recognition of visual interpreting as an assistive technology. In this new position, Everette will continue this important work, as well as take a more active leadership role in product and service development, service delivery, and business development, in addition to building out a team under him.

“I am very proud of the major accomplishments of the Aira team,” says Everette. “My proudest accomplishment is that Aira has committed to not increasing prices for our valued community of Explorers. It is a privilege to be a part of Aira, and I look forward to advancing visual interpreting in this expanded role.”

Prior to joining Aira, Everette served in the Utah state government for 18 years, directing outreach services in low-vision, assistive technology, employment services, and field training. Volunteering and advocacy play a major role in Everette’s life outside of work. He is the second Vice President for the National Federation of the Blind’s Board of Directors, elected this past July, as well as the elected President of the organization’s Utah affiliate. Everette also chairs the Commission for Disability and Accessibility for Salt Lake City and serves on the Human Rights Commission, as well as on the FCC Disability Advisory Committee. Everette lives in Salt Lake City with his wife and dogs.
