Coral Gables, FLORIDA—November 21, 2025. The City of Coral Gables is proud to announce they are now offering an on-demand American Sign Language (ASL) interpreting service. Any individual within the geographic boundaries of Coral Gables can use the Aira ASL app to connect with a professional ASL interpreter.

Using the video and microphone capabilities of the caller’s mobile device, the Aira ASL app allows Deaf and hearing people to communicate seamlessly with one another. The app can help facilitate smoother communication across a vast range of scenarios, from transportation to accessing government services to retail. Calls made using the Aira ASL app are free to anyone in Coral Gables. The service is available 24/7/365, and no advance reservations are required—simply download the app, connect with an interpreter, and enjoy better communication.

As part of their commitment to accessibility, Coral Gables already offers Aira Explorer, an on-demand visual interpreting service for the blind and low-vision community. The addition of the Aira ASL app makes Coral Gables the only city in the country offering both of these accessible services, ensuring more people can effectively communicate and access information.

“In Coral Gables, we are committed to ensuring that everyone, regardless of ability, can access our services and participate fully in our community,” said City Manager Peter J. Iglesias, P.E. “By expanding our partnership with Aira to include on-demand ASL interpreting, we’re strengthening that commitment and setting a new standard for accessibility and inclusion.”

“Aira is thrilled to expand our relationship with Coral Gables as they offer Aira ASL,” said Henri Grau, Director of Deaf Community Engagement at Aira. “By providing the service free within their city’s boundaries, communication access between Deaf and hearing individuals is possible anytime, anywhere.”

Download Aira ASL for free in the iOS App Store, the Google Play Store, or use the desktop app.
